'''The Union Underground''' was formed 1996 in San Antonio, TX by Bryan Scott and Patrick Kennison. The name Union Underground was an altered form of the name of their studio, which they called ''Studio Underground''. They sold more than 5,000 copies of their 1997 selftitled album. This naturally caught the eye of Columbia A&R exec, John Weakland, who later signed them to Columbia Records. The band released their debut major label album [[An Education in Rebellion]] on July 18, 2000. The album sold nearly 400,000 copies with hit singles including ''Turn Me On Mr. Deadman'', ''Revolution Man'', and ''Killing the Fly''.
