Sanctuary was founded in Seattle during 1985. The original line-up was Warrel Dane, Sean Blosl, Jim Sheppard, Dave Budbill, and Lenny Rutledge.

When Sanctuary ended, Dane, Sheppard and Loomis formed the Nevermore during 1991.
