Biography

The band has gone through many members since it's inception. When the band started out in the early-mid 1980's, they were under the name Sanctuary. Later, a band from Washington State would use the name as well and get signed, so rather than feud over the name, guitarist Orrie Velasquez opted to alter the band name from Sanctuary to S.A. Sanctuary to avoid confusion.

When the band started out, it was more of a metal / hard rock band, similar to Iron Maiden.

Through out time as members changed, so did the musical style of the band. Today they are mainly considered Thrash, with some material stemming into Death Metal.

The band was recently signed to Butchered Records (05/2011)[1], then lost the contract due to difficulties with former guitarist.

As of 2011, S.A. Sanctuary disbanded, but apparently they have become active again because of a show with Paul Di'Anno is listed on their official site [2].

Discography

  1. Abandon In Place - released on Butchered Records 2011

* It is said that an 8 - 10 song album titled, Download Humanity was partially recorded in 2003, but never finished. Rumored reasons were difficulties with former musicians and their unwillingness to get it finished.

notes

  • The S.A. in S.A. Sanctuary, is an abbreviation for San Antonio (Texas), where the band started. The name SA Sanctuary is by Orrie Velasquez.
  • In spring 2010, Angel Fuentes and Orrie Velasquez were guitar and bass tech for George Lynch's band, Souls of We during his South West USA leg of the tour. [3]
