'''Legs Diamond''' are a band that has often been called "The American Deep Purple". They released their self-titled debut album for Mercury Records in 1977. The original band broke up in 1980 after releasing three popular albums, but reformed in 1984 due to a cult following and good sales of their albums. They released several more albums and continued to perform throughout the 1990s and 2000s. In 2005, original front man [[Rick Sanford]] was replaced by John Levesque. In San Antonio, TX they are still hugely popular, as the result of being a favorite of the late influential disc jockey Joe "the Godfather" Anthony (1940-1992).  Legs Diamond is one of the few original rock bands that has released albums in each of the last four decades. They were formed in Los Angeles, California in early 1975 by Michael Prince, Roger Romeo and Jeff Poole. Their first official recording was an early version of Rat Race, which appeared on an unsigned artist compilation album, L.A. Soundtrack, which was sponsored by K-WEST radio.
