Actias is an American progressive metal band from Mendon and Uxbridge, Massachusetts. Formed in 2010, the group consists of guitarist and vocalist Matt Cyphers, guitarist Tony Menotti and drummer Corey Downs.
History
Eternal Return (2010-present)
Actias are currently recording their first EP 'Eternal Return', they will have instrumental tracks in between each track, which are currently unnamed, the band have planned it to be released in the summer 2011. They have also released a free demo version of Eternal Return that can be download at their official website.
On May 5th Actias announced that Corey Downs had joined the band and will be playing the drums and that former drummer Tony Menotti will now be playing lead guitar, and on June 13th the band announced that they were in the prosses of recording seven new, currently unamed songs for the EP.
On June 29th Actias announced the band member Jordan Bonnell had left the band for personal reason but stated that 'No hard feeling would be kept', the band also announsed that their current project (Eternal Return) will be put on hold but have already begun future ones, possibly under a different name.
Style
Actias's style of playing is a clever mix of both heavy, brutal styles and lighter, more melodic styles. With a mix of both clean and screamed vocals and sudden changes of speed and tempo, as well as the instruments are played very well and in harmony with one another. Being able to hear them all played clearly and not sounding like one big mass of noise, this gives the music a very hole and complete feel to it. The bands main infuences are Mastodon and Intronaut.
