Life Boy Soap (actual spelling: Lifebuoy)

brief history

Lifebuoy soap.

In 1894 William Hesketh Lever (Lever Brothers) created Lifebuoy in the UK as the Royal Disinfectant Soap.

Lifebuoy is no longer produced in the US and UK, but it is still being mass produced by Unilever in Cyprus. Unilever in Cyprus and Trinidad and Tobago is manufacturing the original Red Lifebuoy Soap with phenol.

Lever Brothers grew and operated until 1899 then merged with the Dutch company, Margarine Unie. This merger formed Unilever which still makes the soap today. Unilever is thought to be the first modern multinational company.

Lifebuoy soap is mentioned several times in The Christmas Story movie from 1983, a movie set in the late 1930's or early 1940's. Lifebouy is still manufactures today with phenol, but only available in certain countries.
